SMART 2009 CONFERENCE

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION OF LINDSAY FOX AC RECOGNISED AT SUPPLY CHAIN'S MOST PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS NIGHT

Australian logistics royalty and founder of Linfox, Lindsay Fox AC, has been awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Supply Chain Management in Australia accolade at this year’s Smart Awards.
 
Fox was presented with the award by Warwick Hughes, Chairman Smart 2009 Organising Committee, at the Supply Chain Industry Dinner and Smart Awards night at Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre last night, recognising his long term contributions to the logistics and supply chain industry in Australia and his ongoing leadership role within the transport and logistics community.
 
Mr Fox founded Linfox in 1956 with just one truck, and over 50 years has grown the company to be one of Australia’s largest transport and warehousing businesses with operations in 11 countries. He still maintains an active interest in the country and his son Peter Fox is the Executive Chairman. 
 
Mr Fox’s services to the transport industry and Australian community have also been recognised in the past through his receipt of the Centenary Medal in 2001 and advancement to a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2008. 
 
“Lindsay Fox AC has revolutionised the supply chain industry in Australia and the region during his 50 years in the business. He was an obvious choice to be awarded this, the highest accolade within the industry,” said Len Harper, Chairman, Smart Awards 2009.
 
In addition to the Outstanding Contribution to Supply Chain Management award, five other categories were awarded at the Smart Awards night.
 
“The quality overall of the entries we received this year was exceptional,” Harper said.
 
“It made the decisions on winners quite difficult and the final results are representative of the entire industry and the great things being done in Australia.”
 
The Queensland Department of Main Roads received the Award for Manufacturing Supply Chains, presented and sponsored by the Australian Production Inventory Control Society (apics).

Coca-Cola Amatil received the Award for Supply Chain Management and Distribution presented by the Logistics Association of Australia (LAA) and sponsored by Swisslog.

ROLE OF SUPPLY CHAIN IN ALLEVIATING GLOBAL POVERTY TO BE ADDRESSED BY TIM COSTELLO

High profile campaigner on social justice issues Tim Costello, AO and CEO of World Vision, has been announced as the opening keynote speaker for Smart 2009.

Renowned for his passion for social justice and services to the community, Tim Costello is an inspiring speaker who will address the conference theme of BRIDGING THE GAP with innovation & new business strategy.

He will present a different perspective on supply chain, exploring the role of industry supply chains in driving economies and alleviating global poverty, as well as providing insight into the importance of partnerships between industry and NGOs.

Tim Costello will share his thoughts on important considerations for innovation and new business strategy in shaping the future of supply chains globally, and will also reflect on his role as one of the inaugural directors of the Australian Centre for Social Innovation.

 

Tim Costello's work has been recognised at the highest levels: he was named Victorian of the Year in 2004, made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2005 and named Victorian Australian of the Year in 2006.  His opening keynote address for Smart 2009 promises to be a thought-provoking opening to the conference.

Defying the global economic gloom, Smart 2009 Conference attracted healthy attendance figures last week with more than 560 delegates gathering to hear innovative strategies for survival and success in today’s logistics and supply chain industry.

Australia’s leading logistics and supply chain conference, 10-11 June, featured presentations from more than 70 local and international experts, including Tim Costello, Chief Executive, World Vision Australia, Chris Richardson, Director, Access Economics, John Pattulo, Chief Executive Officer, CEVA Logistics and Kjell Aleklett, President, Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas (ASPO) International.

Warwick Hughes, Chairman, Smart 2009 Conference Organising Committee said delegates had embraced this year’s conference theme of Bridging the Gap with Innovation and New Business Strategy.

“Supply chain professionals are facing unprecedented economic pressures and Smart 2009 demonstrated that they are increasingly interested in exploring innovative ideas and business strategies,” said Hughes.

“There was a real buzz throughout the Sydney Convention Centre, as delegates sought to expand their knowledge, learn from the industry’s leading thinkers and get the maximum value from their conference experience.”
