Steve Cannon, Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, Department of Defence

  • During a 21 year career with the RAAF (1980-2001), Steve experienced a great variety of roles in engineering management and technical maintenance prior to migrating to the logistics community. In 2001, Steve departed the RAAF to take up a logistics role with Raytheon Australia supporting the Royal Australian Navy Fleet Air Arm providing logistic support to operators, maintainers and third party contractors. In 2011, Steve was offered a position with the Inventory Reform team within the Defence Materiel Organisation; now Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group.

From 2013, Steve has been focusing on solving data management issues impacting on the logistics community to improve access to data, simplify data integration and improve accuracy of forecasting leading to greater confidence in the decision making process. Steve has proposed a future data management model, Faceplate, to meet the growing business need to integrate multiple data sources in a simple, timely and elegant fashion. His vision is to provide all decision makers within Defence; uniformed, civilian and contractors with access to all the data they need, whenever and wherever they need it, on the device they need it, without impacting the host systems.
